Humans vs. Zombies

101_6421Studying about disasters, survival techniques, literature, and neuroscience can take a lot out of a person.  Sometimes you just have to let loose and have a little fun.

The hugely popular campus game Humans vs. Zombies has been translated for use at Zombie Scholars Academy.  During break times between classes and organized activities, ZSA staff will join students in short periods of this game.

Humans vs. Zombies is a game of “tag” pitting competitors designated as “humans” vs. competitors designated as “zombies.”  As zombies tag humans, humans themselves become zombies and join the zombie horde.  Humans avoid becoming zombies by stunning them with either a NERF dart or a balled-up sock.   The game is given an added level of sophistication by the issuing of “missions” that help direct the game’s play.

To participate in the game, students are asked to bring either a NERF Blaster (which comes in a variety of forms conveniently purchased wherever toys are sold) or a bag of cheap athletic socks that can be turned into balls.  Students are also asked to bring a bandana, which is worn either on the head or the arm to indicate whether one is a human or a zombie.
